The League of Arab States is to hold an urgent meeting for its counsel in the level of prime ministers on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the Israeli violations and measures in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
The meeting comes in light of the intensive communications in the last 24 hours and after the Jordanian request, which was supported by other members of the league, the League of Arab States spokesperson Mahmoud Afifi said on Sunday.
Moreover, Egypt and Jordan discussed Saturday the updates in Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and measures that could be taken to prevent further Israeli violations against Palestinians, according to a statement issued by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
Egypt’s Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Al-Safadi discussed the deteriorating security situation in Jerusalem and around Al-Aqsa Mosque, FM spokesperson Ahmed Abou Zaid said.
Abou Zaid added that the two ministers exchanged evaluation of the situation and asserted the importance of stopping the escalation against Palestinians by the Israeli security forces and the removal of restrictions imposed on practising the Muslim ceremonies in Al-Aqsa Mosque.
On Sunday, the Israeli forces installed new security cameras at the entrance of Jerusalem’s holy sites, as Israeli officials said they were considering alternatives to the metal detectors, which raised tensions in the last few days and was rejected by Palestinians.
On Friday, Egypt called on Israel to immediately stop the violations and security measures against Palestinians in Jerusalem after three Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces at the compound of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
